CAPS Main Office

Hello! My name is Oscar Lau (he/him) and I’m currently pursuing my doctorate in clinical psychology at Alliant International University. As a predoctoral intern at UCSB CAPS, I’m deeply committed to empowering identities and promoting mental wellness, especially within multicultural communities. I’m passionate about helping people navigate the challenges of minority stressors, explore the complexities of intersectionality, and find strength in their diverse identities. I have a special focus on those who have historically been underrepresented or marginalized, including, but not limited to, LGBTQIA+ and AAPI communities and experiences.

In therapy, I prioritize creating a space where you feel seen, understood, and valued, supporting you as you explore your identities and experiences safely and openly. Using a social justice and culturally responsive lens, I take an integrative approach, blending CBT and psychodynamic techniques to explore both the visible and deeper, often hidden, layers of your experience. I tailor therapy to your unique goals, strengths, and values to foster authentic growth and healing. My long-term goal is to improve mental health treatment and awareness for minoritized communities through clinical work, research, outreach, and advocacy. As a 2nd generation gay Taiwanese-Hongkongese American, I hope that my intersectional identities can offer representation, reassurance, and hope to those I have the privilege to work with.

Outside of work, I love singing, practicing calligraphy, and spending time with my friends and family. One of my favorite quotes is "just keep swimming" by Dory, as it reminds me to stay resilient in the face of adversity.
