I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco in 2007. I completed my predoctoral internship at Stanford University and my postdoctoral fellowship with University of San Francisco. My research interests have focused on normative gender attitudes, behavior, and their clinical impact on individuals. I have focused my research on aspects of masculinity, emotional intelligence, and alexithymia. Prior to my graduate degree, I had worked for seven years in activity therapy with adolescent and chronically mentally ill populations in Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Since that time, I have conducted many staff trainings in a variety of institutions on verbal and physical interventions for aggressive and violent behavior.

Prior to my work at UCSB, I was a crisis specialist and team leader assessing psychiatric emergencies at Marin General Hospital. I have extensive experience assessing dangerousness, treatment planning, and crisis interventions with community and university populations.

Since 2008, I have been a Clinical Psychologist specializing in graduate students, Consultation Coordinator, Group Coordinator, Assistant Clinical Director, interim Co-Director, and currently Clinical Director at University of California, Santa Barbara, Counseling and Psychological Service. Part of my professional philosophy involves maintaining a balance in my work duties that integrates learning, doing, and teaching. Currently that looks like administering the talking cure daily while planning for the future and simultaneously supporting the CAPS staff in their work with the diverse UCSB graduate and undergraduate students.
